Recent exhibitions, international recognition, and a new painting from the studio. As winter begins to give way to spring, I've been reflecting on how much of this past season has been about light. Many of the paintings I've been working on explore those quiet moments when light quietly transforms an ordinary scene into something memorable. I'm grateful to share that several of my recent works are currently being exhibited in galleries and exhibitions both here in the Pacific Northwest and internationally. It is always an honor to see these paintings continue their journey beyond the studio and into new spaces where others can experience them. Below are a few recent highlights I'm excited to share with you. Museum Exhibition: Butler Institute of American Art Manhattan Morning Manhattan Morning I'm honored to share that my painting Manhattan Morning has been selected for exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. Founded in 1919, the Butler Institute has a long history of exhibiting and supporting American artists. Each year the museum selects a small group of works from the Pastel Society of America's Enduring Brilliance exhibition to be displayed in the Butler's Flora B. Giffuni Gallery of American Pastels. The paintings are chosen by Director Emeritus Dr. Louis A. Zona, who selects a limited number of works from the larger New York exhibition for this special presentation. The exhibition will be on view from March 8 through May 3, 2026. Manhattan Morning is available through the Butler Institute during the exhibition. While the subjects vary widely, from coastal evenings and quiet interiors to florals and still life, they are all connected by the same pursuit that drives much of my work: capturing light and the mood it creates within a scene. Scott Milo Gallery sits along the waterfront in downtown Anacortes and is a wonderful destination for anyone exploring the Skagit Valley or the San Juan Islands. All eight paintings are available through the gallery during the exhibition. In addition, From This Side of the Bar received First Honorable Mention, judged by artist Loriann Signori. The show is being held at Cole Gallery in Edmonds, Washington from March 3 through March 30. The exhibition brings together pastel artists from around the world and showcases the range and vitality of the medium today. Both paintings are available through Cole Gallery during the exhibition. This year's competition received 16,280 entries from artists in 110 countries around the world. From those submissions, 4,200 artworks were selected to advance through the first round of judging. It is an honor to have work included in this international group, and I look forward to seeing how the competition continues to unfold. Jackson's Art Prize Longlist - Click Me Latest From The Studio What Are You Lookin' At? What Are You Lookin' At? My newest painting, What Are You Lookin' At?, was inspired by a moment I captured last fall while riding the New York City subway on the F train. As I looked around the car, I noticed that nearly everyone was focused on something in their hands, most often a phone. One passenger, however, was quietly reading a book. That small contrast caught my attention immediately. The juxtaposition between modern devices and the simple act of reading felt like a small reflection of how our society functions today. We share the same physical space, yet often remain absorbed in our own individual worlds. As with many of my paintings, there are also a few hidden details woven into the scene. If you look closely, you may find the names of my family and our four cats tucked somewhere within the composition. Thank you, as always, for following along with my work and for your continued encouragement and support. It means more than you know. The studio is already full of new ideas, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon.
